A recent study was conducted by microbiology students, in the public toilets of shopping centres, childcare facilities, restaurants, pubs and hospitals.

Over 600 male and females were observed after visiting the toilet. An average of 77% washed their hands with less than 60% using soap. However the highest recorded was in the healthcare sector with 88% of people washing their hands. This study certainly leads us to look at how MRSA has decreased by 60% in the past 6 years in our hospitals. By providing the correct facilities of anti- bacterial soap, hand santiser, putting in controls of hygiene audits and increasing hand hygiene awareness, it certainly has led to a safer environment for our patients. Good to know….
