Manual Handling

 Manual Handling is a physical activity that takes place in every workplace and in some cases the activity does not pose a problem. However it can be a potential workplace hazard when an employee incorrectly handles a load or required to handle heavy loads, which could result in a back injury.

“35% of work related accidents are the result of injury and damage to a disc” – Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Regulation 2007, Manual Handling of Loads.

Part 4 Chapter 2 of the “General Application Regulation Regulations 2007, Manual Handling of Loads”, which states that staff engaged in manual handling must be given training in the safe manual handling of loads.

Course Objective

Its aim is to give participants the knowledge and skill necessary to lift and handle loads in a safe manner, provide staff with an understanding of good work practices and the importance of their own fitness and health.

  • Ergonomics of the workplace
  • Lift & Handle Loads Safely
  • Hazard Identification
  • Principles of Manual Handling

Course duration: 3 to 3.5 hours

On completion of this programme, there is a written exam and a practical assessment of safe manual handling lifting.  Candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance
